Empowering Play: Directive Play Therapy Techniques to Promote Growth

This engaging workshop will guide participants in an in-depth, hands-on approach to utilizing directive techniques in play therapy. Participants will gain knowledge, skills, and techniques to facilitate directive play therapy with various populations including parents, siblings, young children, and teens. Participants will learn and practice directive play therapy interventions to support clients with various presenting concerns including grief, attachment, anxiety, anger, and resistant clients. Ethical considerations and practical resources will be explored.

This workshop is designed for mental health professionals, counselors, and therapists seeking to enhance their skills in understanding and utilizing play as a therapeutic tool. Education hours are available for those who are working towards their Registered Play Therapist credential.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

• Identify when a directive activity is needed in the therapeutic process and when it is not a good fit

• Learn and practice directive activities for 3 different populations of play therapy clients
