Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) is a theoretical approach to play therapy that allows children to lead their play while being able to explore the therapeutic playroom to get their needs met by a counselor attending and responding to their play. This training provides an in-depth understanding of CCPT, including theoretical roots, advanced play therapy skills including limit setting and returning responsibility, and case application. This training provides an introduction that can help ensure that all the participants are able to complete CCPT sessions with their clients after completion of this workshop.
Participants will:
- Describe the theoretical foundation of personality theory relevant to CCPT
- Identify the therapist's way of being and forming a relationship in CCPT
- Differentiate the difference between directive and nondirective play therapy
- Discuss strategies for explaining CCPT to stakeholders like parents and teachers
- Practice and demonstrate the play therapy skills of returning responsibility and restating content
- Practice and demonstrate the A-C-T model of limit setting in CCPT
- Apply CCPT principles to a clinical case
